Tips for Keeping Your Beach Towel Clean and Fresh

A beach towel is more than just a simple barrier between your buttocks and the ground or an oversized bath towel. It is a specifically designed item manufactured to provide you with the best possible experience by the pool or sea. There are different types of beach towels like luxury beach towels, sand-free beach towels, etc. In this article, you will learn a few tips on taking care of your beach towels:

  • Before you use your beach towel for the first time, wash it. Many beach towels come with reminders so that people don’t forget this. Typically, manufacturers use fabric softeners for making the beach towels soft, but this also limits their absorbency. These towels may be exposed to chemicals during manufacturing, and you should not get that on your skin. Also, since the towels are shipped to customers in vacuum packages, the feel and fluffiness are removed by the compression, and the expression is not as enjoyable.
  • Before putting your beach towel for a wash, vacuum or shake off the extra debris or sand that might be stuck in the fibers; you can also swirl the towel around in a basin filled with water. This way, all the sand will float to the button. After this, you can put it into the washing machine and get a better wash.
  • Before you wash the towels, check the care level for the correct temperature. In most cases, colorful printed beach towels have to be between 30 to 40 degrees. Cotton towels have to be set to a higher setting, depending on how dirty they are.
  • If you want to maintain the towel’s softness, you should add vinegar to the wash cycle. Just take a cup or half a cup of white vinegar and add it to the softener component every six weeks. This will keep your towels soft and absorbent.
  • You should never hand wash your towels as it doesn’t get rid of mildew, bacteria, or debris properly. Also, if your beach towel is heavy, it might retain a lot of water, making it difficult to wring out. Because of this, colors might leak, and the towel might end up being stiff.
  • To get rid of the build-up of detergent that makes your beach towels feel stiff, you can add half a cup of baking soda to the machine. It will also remove any musty smell.
  • Make sure that your dark and light colors are separate. Most of the beach towels are colorfast because they are often in contact with water. However, you should still wash similar items together to protect your towels and other clothes in the machine.
  • You should never use chlorine bleach for washing your beach towel. Chlorine is great as a stain remover, but it can damage the fibers of your towel, weaken them, and ruin the beautiful prints and colors. Instead, you can use a commercial stain remover for spot-treat stains, or you can try laundry detergent. Let the towel soak for 20 to 30 minutes. If necessary, repeat and put it in the machine.
  • To achieve maximum fluffiness, you should throw your beach towel in the dryer. It will get them super soft and fluffy.
  • If you don’t have a dryer, you can switch to eco-method and air-dry your towels. However, you have to first vigorously shake them to fluff them up. Also, you should not hang them in direct sunlight, or else their colors might fade.

With these tips, you can keep your sand-free beach towels soft, fluffy, and damage-free for a long time. So, the next time you get back from a beach trip, use the tips mentioned above to clean your towels and ensure that they have a long life.
